Post-Domino Post

We had such a great time at our recent soiree to celebrate all things Domino (well, mainly just two things: their new decorating book and our inclusion in the just-released November issue) that we wanted to share a few images that capture the evening beautifully. (Special thanks to our friend and photgrapher extraordinnaire Liz Ophoven for the fabulous pics.)

Thanks as well to the team at the Adventure School for their awesome balloons and "domino effect" window theme. Check out their incredible Web site...makes me want to jet off on safari.

File Under "We Could Have Told You That"

We are so excited to be named one of Seattle's top shops by NW Home & Garden/Seattle Magazine!

Read the ginormous list here.

On a personal note, next year we are shooting to make it on the "best desserts" list. Can't win 'em all.

The Good, the Bad, and the Web Site

First for the good news: we are featured in this month's issue of Domino; those of you who follow our comings and goings know how excited we've been about this....it's our favorite magazine and, well, it's just plain cool to be in a national magazine!

The bad news is only minor, but we needed some bad news to fit with our trying-to-be-clever post title. Back to the bad news: in the blurb about the store, the name is sort of...incomplete. But Domino, we still love you. Like my grandmother used to say, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

That just leaves the last topic for this session: the Web site. It has been in development for some time, and we were hoping and praying it would be up by now, but it looks like we are still one to two weeks away from the launch of our e-commerce site. Please come back and check then to see more of what we carry, and perhaps even order something of your very own.

If you'd like to be alerted when our site goes live, sign up for our mailing list (see the top right corner of the blog) and we'll let you know. We'll even send you a discount code to use on your first purchase (once we figure out how to do such a thing, of course).

I'd be interested to hear what all you Seattleites think about Rita's selections and comments, should you be so moved to share.

(Rita Konig, by the way, is perfectly lovely, in case you ever wondered.)

The Story of a Sofa

Courtesy of our friend Pamela Hodnefield of PH Design Group, we are the proud owners of a smashing vintage black leather chesterfield, seen above en route to the shop in my husband's equally smashing vintage VW truck.

Here's how it looks in its new home:

How would it look in yours?

Take a Hand

Have we mentioned that we have a serious shelter magazine obsession? Yes, it's not just Domino we're fixated on--it's all of them: Met Home, Elle Decor, Cottage Living, Southern Accents, World of Interiors, House Beautiful, Traditional Home... we are still bemoaning the demise of Blueprint and House & Garden.

But I digress... The new issue of Metropolitan Home arrived a few days ago in our mail slot, and we were so happy to see the home (or one of them, anyway) of our friend Jonathan Adler (shared with partner Simon Doonan).

We mention this chiefly because we spotted Adler's fabulous ceramic and lucite "Love" hand on the cover, and the companion "Peace" hand is featured in another spot in their home. We currently have both of these in the shop, and in these times, couldn't we all use a little more Peace and Love?

Party Buzz

Thanks to our lovely friend and fellow decor lover Allison, creator and author of the indispenable NW Source blog called "Minding the Shop," for the recent piece on our upcoming Domino-themed bash.

While you are all most likely sick of me talking it up, and perhaps about Domino in general, we're in the home stretch.... And if you come to the party, I promise not to mention the "D" word for at least the amount of time it takes to receive the next issue. Scout's honor.

On a side note, how much do I want to live in that house? Thiiiiiiiiiiis much. Could I at least have the front door? (Image courtesy of, yes, Domino)

Warm Fuzzies for Cool Pricklies

Our favorite death-defying plants were given some kind attention by our friend at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Tracy Schneider. (Thanks, Tracy!)

Check it out for yourself, then come pick one (or three) up for your favorite plant killer.

The Fabric of Our Lives

Did you know that, in addition to lovely products you can't live without, you can purchase every fabric or wallcovering known to man through us as well?

Do you know the ubiquitous "to the trade" phrase often applied to the items you like best in home decor mags? That's us--"the trade."

Come by the shop to see a sampling of fabrics we are currently loving, and discuss your colors/style/upholstery or project needs to enlist our help in finding exactly the right material for your application.

We love finding vintage pieces that simply need a little work--a bit of lacquer here, some fabric there--to be transformed into a room's crowning glory. Let us help with your latest find, or ask us to scout pieces on your behalf... we'd love to!

Additionally, we are excited to offer hourly design services to help with anything from color consultation to furniture selection to custom drapery fabrication to whatever you can dream up. Drop us a line or stop by the store for more information.

What's New

It's that time again, time for us to give a shout out to our favorite new items at the shop. Here's what we're currently excited about:

Bold, colorful new baubles from the singular costume jeweler Kenneth Jay Lane...we've got incredible rings, chunky necklaces, glam cuffs. Truly beautiful pieces await you, so get 'em while you can. Our last shipment sold out in no-time flat.

We also have a number of new side table options, including this mirror-topped model sporting legs incorporating--yep, you guessed it--a greek key motif. Have we mentioned that we're fans? I thought so.

And though we have seen these around here and there, we are still excited about these clever elephant side tables, perfectly sized to hold your favorite cocktail while you lounge in a decadent wing chair, entertaining yourself with the latest political debate--not hard to do, these days.

We also have back in stock a few popular table/stool options, including this perennial favorite from Shine Home, available in a number of different colors.

Also back are the upholstered X-base stools, available in white or black faux croc, as well as faux python. (We've got the white and python currently in stock.)

Check out this incredible adjustable counterbalance brass and fabric pendant:

This vintage hall mirror and bench pair is such a wonderful scale but packs in a huge amount of glamour... we love the idea of using it in a dressing room, or in a space to create the illusion of a dressing room.

Also new to or back in stock at the shop:

Red lacquer mirrors in rectangular and square styles, to be used alone or together to create a dramatic installment.
More stag heads, in three different sizes. We thought they had run their course, but customers continue to request them, so we continue to oblige.

A pair of beautiful vintage cocktail tables procured at an East Coast auction, with handpainted Asian scenes on the lower shelf and aged mirror tops. Photos can't do these justice...they are truly lovely and a wonderful scale to fit in most any setting.

More colorful ceramics from PTMD, the perfect holiday or housewarming gift.

As always, there is more than we have the energy to share, so come by soon to see it all in person.
