Sponge Worthy

I was so excited to awaken this morning to a "sneak peek" of my home on the ever-popular design*sponge today! (Now that that's out of the way, can we all take a second to admire that headline? As you were.)

Being a to-the-point-of-madness perfectionist, and in consideration of the fact that design and aesthetics are my bread and butter, I was reluctant to send them photos of my far-from-complete home. We're constantly in the midst of projects, slowly making our way down the wish list as the money appears to pay for each item. In a cruel twist of fate, we were just preparing to tackle some of the more dramatic projects--wallpaper, painting, new furnishings, etc--when the fabulous design*sponge opportunity arose.

To flesh out the place, we borrowed a few items from the shop (but technically, I do own these and selected each and every one, so that's not cheating, right?) and convinced our fabulous neighbor and photographer extraordinaire Liz Ophoven to snap off some pics.

Here's what we came up with...see if you recognize anything. And, more importantly, stay tuned for some serious "after" shots in the next few months.

And in what was apparently our day for great blog coverage, the perennial favorite Decorno gave our gardening efforts a nice shout-out, though her readers were not all so sure... What do you think?

But I Digress...

I started this blog shortly after opening the store last March, primarily as a way to communicate information about the store while having my "real" Web site built (still in the works, I am sad to say!), but over time I have thought more and more about what I wish my blog were. One of my goals for the New Year is to try and get there.

If you have followed our musings over the last few months, you know that one of our favorite blogs is Decorno. While of course we love her decor-related postings, the real reason we read is for HER--her snarkiness and her perspective on things from the economy to family to draped tables (yes or no?). She just makes us laugh, and reminds us not to take ourselves or our industry so seriously.

In my perfect world, this blog would be more like that. It would, of course, be filled mostly with things related to the shop, but it would also be dotted with posts about remodeling my home, my struggles in balancing two small children and a new business, my frustrations in finding any time left over for myself... things I think a lot of us out there are dealing with.

Would anyone have any interest in reading any of this? Maybe not. Is anyone reading this now? Who knows. But if you do follow along, please indulge some experimentation....and of course let us know if we are boring you to tears.

Thanks for listening. How much do I owe you?

Stop the Madness

I just learned (courtesy of my source for all breaking decor news, Decorno) that Cottage Living has gotten the axe as well! On the plus side, my monthly magazine-reading time has now been substantially reduced. Guess I will have to start paying attention to my children again. (I kid.)

I Heart Decorno

Also wanted to thank the fabulous "Decorno" local design blog, who featured us as well (and before DailyCandy, I might add--shame on me for not thanking them first!). Decorno makes me laugh at least once per post, which made me even happier that they mentioned Revival Home & Garden. Check it out here: http://decorno.blogspot.com/2008/03/revival-home-and-garden-opens-in.html
